Drumroll please. At last! The basement is revealed. It certainly isn’t finished, but it looks much more like a room than it did many months ago. The walls are painted, the carpet has been laid, the creepy spiders have been smashed, and we’ve got an extra room on our hands.
Just so you didn’t forget how ugly this room was to begin with, here are a few photos.
And here’s the before video from last January…
And finally, the AFTER video!
Clearly, we still have some work to do, but three cheers for progress! A few things annoy me about the video, particularly the TV cords, and unstyled shelves, but no biggie.
Have a happy short week, friends…holiday weeks are the best. EVER.

Love the light and airy feeling of the room… I love that you do this and yet still give it a comfortable, warm feeling with your personal touches. I was wondering where you purchased your metal magazine holders and great basket under your TV console. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Toni! The large basket is from Crate & Barrel (it’s super sturdy!) and the metal boxes were picked up at a thrift store:).

Oh, it’s so lovely! You should be so proud – you’ve taken a sad space and made it happy again. The built-ins are genius, your hard work painting and sewing definitely show, and the color scheme is restful and welcoming. Seriously, lovely job. Congratulations, and Happy Thanksgiving!

My favorite aspect of the new room is the built-ins under the stairs. Those are amazing. Great job finishing the room – I bet Kyle is excited to have such an amazing room to relax and play that Xbox I saw on your TV console. Did you seriously, drop the bomb and say you’re not sure how much longer you’ll be in your home? Spill it…

This turned out so nice! I really like the stairs and the TV stand. It’s beautiful. What did you end up doing with the red sectional?
December 1st, 2011 on 1:03 pm
Hi Jolene:). So fun to hear from you! The red sectional is in storage. We are thinking we’ll sell it on Craiglist. It’s so comfy though – it’s hard to give up!
