2013 Portland Flea Dates + Other PDX Sales

Fellow Portlanders! I have my hands on this year’s upcoming Portland Flea dates and wanted to share the official flea calendar with you. The first flea of the year will be this Sunday, Jan. 20. As for the rest of 2013, here are the dates: 2/17, 3/17, 4/21, 5/19, 6/16, 7/21, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20, 11/17 & 12/15. Per usual, the flea is held at Union/Pine on 525 SE Pine Street in Portland. For minute-by-minute vendor and item updates, follow Portland Flea on Facebook here.

Word on the street is that there are a number of new vendors in the mix this year, and plenty of vintage finds to be had. I took a break from bargain hunting to focus on the remodel, but now I’m back in action. I’ll be at Sunday’s flea looking for some  comfy new sitting chairs for our living area.

In other Portland happenings, WoonWinkel is kicking off its expanded furniture collection with an upcoming furniture sale! From February 1st-17th,Woonwinkel will offer 15% of all custom and in-stock furniture by Hay and SCP and 20% off select home accessories.

Rejuvenation is also having it’s attic sale this weekend. Save more than 75% on lighting and other decor items. We’ve picked up numerous goodies from these sales in the past and they are great to check out if you are flexible in terms of colors, shades, and sizes.

And, Grayling Jewelry is also having a sample sale this weekend. Katy Kippen is the queen bee of jewelry design, and I can guarantee you there will be beautiful jewelry and good deals at her darling shop.

Happy shopping and, cheers to a cozy winter weekend!

World Market Finds

Friends! Thank you for the sweet comments on our kitchen progress thus far. Remodeling tends to suck the life outta you, so I’m super glad this remodel (err, this phase of the remodel) is nearly complete.

Over the holidays, I had some time to browse a few lovely stores (not rush through a store, sweating, like usual), with one of them being World Market. Man, that place has some finds. And the prices…a steal! Here are a few of my favorite things…

GOLDENROD HARPER BANQUETTE

GRAY EMMA TUFTED CHAIRS, SET OF 2

KANTA CHAISE

ASHTON NESTING TABLES, SET OF 3

As I’ve expressed before, 2012 was a messy year. I forgot how to use the word “no” and way over-committed myself in practically every aspect of my life. Now, I’m trying to pick up the pieces. Upon hearing about my busy schedule and crazed lifestyle, my dear friend Meg shared a “ To Do” list she’d created. I immediately printed it out and have been using it daily. It not only gives me a snapshot of what my focus items are for that day, but it also maps out an area for me write “things I’d like to do today” and “things I’d like to do someday”.  It’s brilliant. It not only captures what I MUST do that day, but it also highlights the things I’m dreaming about. It’s the perfect list for someone like me….someone who’s brain is just not thinking about today.

I’m super pumped to report that Meg is letting us all in on her little organizational secret, and her lovely To Do list is now available for downloading here.

Meg – thanks for saving me and my unorganized thoughts and life. Here’s to hoping you all put Meg’s list to good use too!

Our kitchen…so close!

I owe you a kitchen remodel update. I also owe you a bathroom remodel update, but let’s stick with the kitchen remodel for now. Deal? Thus far, we’ve chatted about our marble countertops, our cabinet installation, and our hardwood floors. And let’s not forget about where we started. Now, let’s talk tile. We went with counter to ceiling white subway tile  with delorean gray grout. It’s a lot of tile, but it’s clean and subtle enough that it doesn’t take over the room. The island will do most of the talking in this kitchen, so once that’s in (it’s only halfway installed in the photos), I’m hoping it will steal the show. All in all, the kitchen is a functioning space, and you can see the outline of where we’re going. Perhaps it actually looks like a kitchen?! I was dealing with some mad sun in these photos, so they aren’t the best, but again, hopefully you can get an idea of how things are shaping up…

What’s still to come? Let’s see if I can remember all that’s still in store…

1.) Installation of cabinet faces/hardware

2.) Installation of open shelving

3.) Paint wood windows

4.) Trim

5.) Final coat on wood floors

6.) Installation of island – only half is in place in the photos

7.) Installation of butcher block island top

8.) Decor, decor, decor!

Oh yes, and the unpacking of dozens of kitchen boxes is in store too. Ugh. Makes me tired just thinking about it. Sometimes I hesitate sharing these photos as there’s still much to do to make it look like an actual kitchen, but hopefully you can see the potential in this room:).
