Home Tour…in paint colors
Morning folks!
Sorry for the silence – we’ve been busy bees lately. But, I’m back this week with lots of goodies, starting today with a tour of our home, in paint colors. Paint questions are the most frequently asked, so I figured I might as well do a quick show and tell…
Living Room – Benjamin Moore’s Copley Gray
Dining Room – Olympic’s Quill (more details here)
Guest Bedroom – Behr’s Pebble Stone
Kitchen/Nook – Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Gray
Upstairs Bedroom – Benjamin Moore’s Fairview Taupe
Basement – Benjamin Moore’s Pale Oak (more details here)
There you have it – our little abode in paint colors. You can bet we’ve sampled dozens of other colors, as we’ve repainted a few rooms more than once. What have we learned? Make sure you are in LOVE with your paint color before painting an entire room. Or rather, picking a color because you are in a hurry/just can’t decide is not a good idea. Paint is a big commitment, and you need to really, really like the colors you choose.
What I’m dying to know – what are your favorite paint colors? Do tell!

Our living and dining rooms are connected by a large archway. The living room was a cream color but the dining room was a nice greenish gray (white trim). The best match i found to the dining room was quiet moments by Ben Moore. We painted both rooms with quiet moments and they look great! I love it! It’s a better contrast with the white trim than the cream was, and the rooms look larger since they’re the same color now!
Quiet moments is totally on my “to try” paint color list now – thanks for the tip!
I love all your paint colors, great choices. My favorite neutral is Behr Wheat Bread and I adore Ben Moore’s Quiet Moments. You can see all our paint colors here:

Will have to check out that Ben Moore color – sounds amazing! Just checked out all of your paint colors…so pretty!!!
Love the dining room color! Unfortunately we rent so we can’t paint our walls. But i just finished refinishing a thrift store cabinet in a really pretty blue (Ace Royal Brand.) It was a custom color called “slow dance.”
you can see it here: http://jennifersmentionables.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/whats-old-is-new-and-a-slow-dance-blue/
LOVE your dining room color. fresh without being easer-y
I loooove your kitchen an nook, it has been an inspiration to me!! Keep doing your thing girl!!
Your color eye is right on, friend! I love them all.
The one color I’ve painted and have loved for years is called Gobi Desert by Behr (in our dining/living/kitchen). It’s gotten tons of compliments. I think all other colors I’ve picked have been busts and we’ve had to paint over them. Oops! xo
Love your beautiful home! Especially the dining room table and chairs!
They are all fantastic! Agreed, paint colors are ridiculously hard to choose, so thank you for sharing yours! On a side note- is that the hand-me down dresser all fixed up? It looks gorgeous in those browns!
It is! Its not completely finished, but it certainly looks much better:)!
I love it! I usually gravitate towards white when upgrading used furniture, but really love the natural browns on that piece. And the beloved knobs just look fantastic!
Benjamin Moore’s JUTE. just painted our spare bedroom this color and I love it so much that now I want my bedroom to be the same color. I have a question for you regarding paint color..if painting your kitchen cupboards a white — should they be the same white as your trim? we are getting ready for a kitchen makeover and this has had me thinking. thanks!
Hi Toni! Yes, I believe the cupboards should be the same color as the trim. Happy painting!
Do you love your living room color. My walls are currently light yellow with all white woodwork. Desperately seeking a change.
We do! It’s one of my very favorites:)!
Thanks for sharing your paint colors, everything is lovely. But what color is your trim?
Hi Carrie! Our trim color is Benjamin Moore’s white dove – thanks for stopping by!
Hi Kirsten, I love the design of your home and the whole blog. I think you did an awesome work. I am thinking of redecor my home. But it seems there are so many things to do and hard to find a clue. Thus, I haven’t started it. Am I wrong on this? Maybe I should start from small things? But I really want to change the color of the walls which is not small. Do you have any good suggestion?
Thanks Maggie! The best rooms are created organically and over time, so start with whatever you feel most comfy with. And only decorate with items you love – there’s no rush to decorate everything at once, so begin with the small things, and when you get more comfortable, tackle the big things:)!
Loving your blog (Found it via Younghouselove!) What great choices! I was wondering what color your exterior is?
Hi Amber! It’s called Sharkskin by Benjamin Moore – we love it:).
Just found your blog today c/o Fancy Things and I’m loving it! I hope you don’t mind my asking, but I’ve just got to know – where did the artwork featured in the upstairs bedroom come from (the one of the girl in the yellow swimsuit) – it’s beautiful! I think I need it in my life.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Dawn! I love that print too – it’s from Kiki and Polly. Here’s her website: http://www.kikiandpolly.com/
Hi – your house is beautiful – I found you through Young House Love. Could you please tell me more about the sofa pillows in the living room? Thanks.
Hi Sara! Sure thing! The orange pillows I picked up from Manor Fine Wares in Portland, and the rest of the pillows I bought from West Elm and Crate & Barrel a few years ago. Hope that helps!

Hey Kirsten! You have such a beautiful home and amazing taste in paint color! I am absolutely in love with your kitchen. I would love to feature your home and colors on my paint color blog, Involving Color. You wouldn’t have to do a thing, just let me know if you’re interested!
Hi! Love you blog and have been obsessed with the paint colors in your home. I have been looking at Quill and Pale Oak for my living room – I haven’t gotten samples yet but online they look so similar. Any direction/suggestions since you had them on your walls? They both look great but I’d love your thoughts! Is one more gray or tan, etc? Thanks!!
Thanks Alexa:)! Both colors are great – I’d say get swatches and see which one “speaks” to you! The Pale Oak is lighter than the quil, but both are very pretty and calm. Good luck!
Hello Kirsten… I love your home and your colors are beautiful. I have a question for you,,, Do you purchase BM’s paint or color match it at Lowes or Home Depot ect..? We are in the process of painting our home and the cost difference between Behr or Valspar in comparison to Benjamine Moores paint is significant. Your imput will be greatly appriecated

I LOVE your blog and can’t wait to see your bathroom and kitchen remodel in your new home! My husband and I just moved into our first home and we are going to start remodeling little by little. First on the list is painting our bedroom. It is an attic bedroom and the walls are textured and look very similar to the walls on your previous bedroom. I was wondering what paint finish you used on your bedroom walls?
