All Trunked Up

Trunks. Gotta love ‘em. Especially when you find them on Craigslist for $12.00.  It’s not in the best shape, but I always like to spin in it and play the ”character” card.

See, lots of character.  When you open it up, it’s like a rush of stories come out to play. On top of being funky and fabulous it gives me another place to store all of my junk, a great bonus. Currently, the trunk resides in the office, but I’m not sold on that room being its final home. As usual, I’ll let you know where this week’s Craigslist find ends up in our home!

Before & After: Entry Table

Hopefully you all remember my post on the sewing table I found on Craigslist last week? Since then, I’ve painted it and it now serves as our entry table. Usually when I purchase a piece like this, it needs more work (like new knobs and some slight repairs) but this table was pretty much turn-key. In fact, I probably could have just left it as is, but I’ve had this thing with white paint lately…

Before I show you these pictures, I want to say these images are not my best work, as I was busy celebrating Dad’s day this weekend and didn’t get a chance to snap any photos during the day(and the cord in the “after” photo drives me nuts, but whatever). So, I promise to get you guys some better photos soon, and I’ll also be doing a follow-up post on three different ways to style a table like this, because the options are truly endless!

I really wanted to buy a few new items for our table, but as I started playing around with decor pieces, I realized I already had a number of things around the house that would work well on the table. In fact, I had too many things to choose from, which is why I am going to do another post on decorating small tables.

And here’s a little source list:

Table: Craigslist

Letter “N”: Urban Outfitters

Plant Pot: Home Depot

Lamp: Ikea

Finally, I plan on framing and placing the line art drawings I featured last week above the table, and when I do so, I’ll be sure to post a final “After” photo of our entry table area.

Fab Find: Antique Sewing Table

Saturday was the first day Portland hit 80 degrees. We have finally finished hibernating! The parks, sidewalks and garden centers were full of people. It was a beautiful sight.

We did a number of things around the house this weekend, and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to blog about until I picked up this piece of furniture (yes, it’s another cheap Craigslist find):

Yes, that’s a sewing machine in the table and no I do not plan on actually using it. But it looks pretty cool, so I think I’ll keep it in there for now. The thing I love most about this piece is its hardware. My mom often teases me that I spend more money on hardware than the actual furniture piece, and  I am happy to report that won’t be the case this time.

What’s my plan for this piece? It’s going to go right by our front door and serve as our entry way table. I’m fairly certain I am going to paint it, but my options seem endless at this point. Here are some inspiration picks I’ve gathered…

Your vote? Should I keep it conservative (white? black?) or go bold (gold? teal?)?  More to come…
