Dining Room Curtains

Kyle and I escaped reality and headed to Central Oregon this weekend. It’s pretty much one of the prettiest places on earth, and it makes you forget about life’s worries. We stay at this wonderful place called Five Pine Lodge, and rent out our own little cabin in the woods. I highly, highly recommend visiting Sisters, Oregon if you ever make it out to the West Coast. Seriously, think about it.

Now on to the important stuff. Curtains. I’ve been putting off this post for awhile because I had the HARDEST time picking out fabric. I was even losing sleep over it. I really, truly could not decide. So I listed the help of my smart husband, and he made the choice for me. I showed him a few inexpensive fabrics I had found (because let’s be real, I found plenty of fabrics I loved, but all were way,way above our price range) and he chose this one:

To Netherlands Collection

It’s from Premier Prints, and it’s called Netherlands. I chose the corn yellow/linen color (this print comes in a variety of colors) because as you all know, I’m stuck on yellow for some weird reason. What really got me about this fabric was that it has a linen look to it, making it appear much more expensive than its $10.99/yard price tag. Love it.

The fabric is currently hanging in my dining room, however, I haven’t had an opportunity to really sew the curtains and make them  pretty, but these pictures still give you a good idea of what they’ll look like soon…

One thing I never expected – the room appears much taller now that the curtains are hung. Hello height! Believe it or not, the table it the last piece of the puzzle and we are hoping it will be here next week.

With the dining room nearing completion, what room shall I tackle next?

Store Spotlight – Britex Fabrics

Britex Fabrics has four, I repeat, four stories full of fabric. Now that’s my kind of store! Thank goodness it’s located in San Francisco, otherwise I’d be in big trouble. Family-run since 1952, Britex carries textiles from a varied group of designers, from Giorgio Armani to up-and-coming artists. The staff knows its fabric and you must visit every floor as there’s something new to see on each level.

I had the chance to visit this wonderful store last Spring, and if you are in the S.F. area and need fabric, buttons, ribbons or lace, it’s the place to go. One of my best buddies, Elise, told me about this wonderful place when she was getting the goods to create her perfect wedding dress, and I knew I had to check it out on my next visit.

I visited Elise in March, and instead of doing normal tourist things(riding the cable car, visiting Fisherman’s Wharf, etc), I wanted to go to Britex. So, there I was. Surrounded by prettiness. And my heart felt at ease. I was at home amongst bolts and bolts and bolts of vibrant fabric. The thing about fabric stores is that it’s hard to capture their beauty because bolts of fabric aren’t really photogenic. So, I guess you’ll have to take my word on this one, as the photos don’t do this place justice.

And you bet we didn’t walk outta this store empty-handed. Elise bought two beautiful, beautiful fabrics (one for the kitchen window and one for the dining room) and we made curtains for her home. I’ll have to ask Elise to send me better pictures of her curtains, because the texture and quality of the fabrics she chose are top-notch.

Again, I wish you could see the detail within the above curtain fabric, because it’s sweeeeeet. Not only did we make curtains for Elise’s place, but we did a few other projects as well, and I’m hoping to show you them later this week. I’ll also ask for more detailed pics of the fabric, because it’s worth seeing up close and personal. Thanks again for having me Elise and I hope to visit you and Britex Fabrics again soon!

Free Spirit Fabric

First of all, thank you for all the warm comments yesterday! It is so fun to have new visitors around here – welcome! I have more room reveals coming up, so I hope you’ll stay-tuned.

I was all set to jump into a Chicago Store Spotlight post, but I had so many questions about the fabric I used for my kitchen curtains yesterday that I am going to feature a few other wonderful fabric patterns from Free Spirit. All of these fabrics retail for around $15 a yard, a fraction of the cost of most other decorator weight fabrics.

So sit back and enjoy the view…

Free Spirit in Linen

Free Spirit in Okra

Free Spirit in Cowslip (love that name!)

Free Spirit in Ivory

Free Spirit in Blue

Free Spirit in Olive Oil

Free Spirit in Pumpkin

Free Spirit in Sour Lime (my kitchen curtain fabric)
