Strawtacular

Ever since I was itty bitty, I’ve loved drinking out of straws. Call me quirky, but it’s the truth. Given my love for straws, accessories and all things party-related, these straws are a staple around here. They make an everyday drink, not-so-everyday.

And they add so much to a table setting too…

And where can you order striped straws at a reasonable cost? So many places! Check out these online retailers for colors/prices:

You can bet your bum I’m including these fun straws in my next tablescape! Three cheers for the weekend…bring it on.

Office Turned Guest Bedroom

The last time I showed you my office, it looked just like that – an office. And a messy one at that! Since I don’t work out of the house anymore, the office slowly morphed into my dumping ground for fabric, crafts, bills, wrapping paper, and everything else in between. It was heaven to me, but Kyle called it my “tornado zone” and I admit, it was a messy room. Proof is in the pic!

In an effort to keep our second bedroom a livable room and space, we’ve slowly been converting it from an office into a bedroom. So today I’m going to show you where we are at. One important thing to note – we’ve been converting the space using stuff we already have. Meaning, I haven’t bought anything new for this room, except for these lovely pillows that I blogged about last week (!!!).

Guest-bedroom pillows

They are from be still homewares and I love them! They have been my one and only purchase for our soon-to-be official second bedroom, which currently looks like this (note to self – smooth out the comforter before taking pictures):

It’s slowly coming together. I still need to:

  • Select fabric and sew curtains
  • Purchase colored sheets (blue? green?)
  • Add a few more pillows
  • Position creme colored jute rug (already own)
  • Accessorize (the fun part!)

After it’s complete, I’ll be sure to post much more comprehensive photos. As for what we’ve already used in the space, I snagged the bed frame and blue chest of drawers off Craigslist years ago. The white end table was a piece I stumbled upon in my Aunt’s basement. All of the pieces received a mini-makeover before finding their way to our second bedroom. They both deserve a post of their own, so stay-tuned to hear about their face-lifts!

Again, we still have a lot of work to do to make the space feel cohesive and cozy, but it’s a start.

I SPY! Tea Towels

Tea towels are one of my favorite gifts to give…and get! They are both practical and fun, especially these tea towels from Keep Calm Gallery. I’ve featured its tote bags and prints before, and guess what? Keep Calm Gallery’s tea towels are equally adorable…

The towels above are just a sampling of what’s available online.  Created from soft organic cotton, the towels are about $11.00 each. The prices on the website are in euros, so don’t be alarmed. And yes, they absolutely ship items to the states.

I’ve said this before, but the best part about Keep Calm Gallery is that it was founded by two young entrepreneurs-Lucas Lepola and Hayley Thwaites-out of East Dulwich, London. For some reason, a product’s “wow” factor goes through the roof when you find out someone has poured their heart and soul into creating it. Case in point. Lucas and Hayley run Keep Calm Gallery, an online store that has grown from a small side business into an expansive website full of beautiful things for your home (mugs, prints, tea towels, etc). Keep Calm Gallery includes work that not only Lucas and Hayley have created, but the website features a number of other amazingly talented artists, designers and print makers.

Happy weekend to you all! Kyle and I have house guests coming next week and I can’t wait to tell you who’s stopping by…fun times ahead!
