Personalized Napkins

Morning, folks!

I hope this Monday finds you full and happy. I managed to eat my little heart out for four straight days, so today, the cleanse begins…

Last weekend, I took one of Modern Domestic’s free mini classes. As usual, I had a delightful time and I came home with a little personalized napkin in tow. I’m a beginner when it comes to sewing, and I loved this little project because it was quick and fairly simple. I just hopped on the crazy high-tech BERNINA Aurora 450 sewing machine, and held on for the ride. The hardest part of the entire class was choosing what kind of pattern I wanted on the napkin (so many pretty decorative stitches!), and the rest was history. I’m not going to dive into a full tutorial, as Modern Domestic has already done a fabulous one here, but here’s a few photos of my mini-class and my lovely finished napkins.

I started off with a pre-cut piece of 18×18 fabric, and then carefully measured and marked my lines where I wanted to sew the decorative stitching on both ends of the napkin.

From there, I sat down at my mighty BERNINA machine, programmed in my stitch, and started sewing…

I choose a fairly intricate stitch on one end of my napkin, and on the other end, I played around with the alphabet setting. I told my machine to spell out EAT, and it did. No joke. And so easy!

I serged the sides of the napkin, and then, in a blink of an eye, I brought home new napkins. It was easy. And if I say it was easy, it was.

Here they are resting nicely on my table.

You bet I’m coming back for more. I’m already dreaing up some holiday napkins, which I will share soon:).

Lots of goodies to come on the blog this week, including this year’s FREE holiday download. Get excited….

Basement Pillows

This past weekend I did a little sewing, and I’m happy to report I only sewed one pillow inside out. The rest are fairly put together. But don’t look too close! The pillows are for our basement – here’s a quick shot of the fabric I ordered from Premier Prints for this little makeover.

The light blue stripe fabric is for the ottoman, which I have yet to recover. The rest of the fabric is for pillows, and here’s a few photos of the finished pillows.

The green pillows were created with two different fabrics. I thought I’d switch it up and try something new.

As for the rest of the basement, I’m still on the hunt for a TV console and again, I still need to sew a cover for the ottoman.

I guess our mantra for our basement makeover is…slow and steady wins the race!

Pillow Sewing Success

Morning, friends!

I don’t know about you, but I feel jipped – I seriously missed my hour yesterday. All day I felt like I was behind. Three cheers for more daylight, but bummer about one less weekend hour.

On Saturday I spent four hours at Modern Domestic (yes, four!) learning how to construct a piped pillow. I did come home with a finished pillow, but I just happened to choose 1/2 inch piping, and apparently, the thicker the the piping, the harder it is to sew. Who knew?! At the start of the class, I just had these items…

And I left with this…

And I’m especially proud of my zipper!

I’m working on pillow #2 and both of these will reside on our guest bed downstairs. I’m hoping to finish pillow #2 next weekend and I’ll be happy to check this sewing project off my list!

As for the fabric, it’s Robert Kaufman’s leaf from Metro Living and can be found here. There are also dozens of other colors in this same print and all of them are super beautiful.

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy week:)!
